Brief History of the Department
The Department of Psychology came into existence in the year 1990 with 32 seats in +2 as per the decision of the Higher Education Department, Government of Odisha. Psychology as a subject was introduced at Degree level during the academic year 2002-03 with 16 seats. Dr. Sohani Das joined in the Department as the first faculty member and put all her devotions to nourish its infancy. The last three batches of Honours students of this subject passed out successfully. The +2 students opting for Psychology have also fared much better.
Course Offered
The Department of Psychology offers B.A. (6 Semesters) regular course. It seeks to provide almost every branch of psychology that can equip the students with a thorough knowledge of psychology. Students from non-psychology background are also strongly encouraged to apply. The programme of study consists of 14 core courses which are compulsory and 2 are elective courses. Each of these carry 100 marks and students are generally required to complete the courses of each semester.

Future Plans of the Department
The Department of Psychology is planning to open short term certificate courses in Career counselling, Family Therapy and Geriatric care. This is because in this competitive world today, in order to prosper and achieve the goal one must choose right career path according to his/her ability and potentiality. We have to finish a lot of work within short period of time, as a result counselling is needed necessarily in each and every sphere of life like education, employment, family, marriage, parenting and so on.
