History
English is taught in this college as a compulsory subject to all and as Honours subject to those who opt for it and get selected on the basis of their merit in the entrance test/marks scored in the council examinations. Since it is taught as a compulsory subject the department started from the year of the opening of the college, 1966. Subsequently in the year 1978-79 honours classes opened with only 16 seats. Then in the year 1991-92 the number of seats in honours class increased from 16 to 24 and in the year 2011-12 the number of seats increased to its present strength of 32 from 24. It is also offered as Alternative English for M I L for all classes and as Elective subject for students of other Honours courses of Arts stream at the Degree levels.
